MURFREESBORO, Tenn. - - On this rainy Saturday evening, Tennessee Tempo FC faced off against Bowling Green FC and took down the Golden Lions, 4-1.
With both teams battling the weather, there was a real lack of attacking threat coming from either side through the opening moments of the game. Through balls skipped across the turf and long passes battled the wind all night, though Tempo did find their way through eventually.
Winning a corner, Horace Avila Jr. then delivered a left footed ball into the box and Nathaniel Bedai attempted to get a foot onto it but was dragged to the floor by a Golden Lion. Stepping up to take the penalty himself, Bongo, as many know him by, smashed a shot into the top right corner to give Tempo the lead.
As the rain began to pick up, the offense began to slow down, meaning the game would go into the break with just the one goal.
Coming out of the break with a new found energy, Tempo doubled their lead after just three minutes of play. Adding his second goal of the night, as well as the season, Bedai won the ball in the midfield and while still at a near full-sprint, delivered a ball into the box which was deflected into the back of the net.
With a two goal cushion and confidence to go with it, Tennessee Tempo FC rallied to put another shot in the back of the net just minutes later. Defending a set piece on their own end, Tempo broke away with a clearance from their half which found a sprinting Harrison Watts.
Watts came into tonight's match with five goals in two games, good enough for third in the nation in less games than those he's sharing the spot with, and the striker would add to his total. Looking for a cross into the box initially, his pass was deflected back into his path and this time Watts preferred a shot of his own, delivering a gorgeous side-foot volley over the goalkeeper's head, 3-0 Tempo.
Putting the nail in the Golden Lions’ coffin, Gregory Cousins took a shot from range which the BGFC shot stopper couldn’t handle and was parried right into the way of Jermaine Muirhead who was ready to poach the shot, now 4-0 Tempo.
As all three shots came in the opening ten minutes of the second half, Bowling Green calmed themselves down and although Tempo kept putting shots on goal, the score stayed at 4-0 for the following 25 minutes. Salvaging something small from the match, the Golden Lions were able to ruin Alex Rodriguez’s clean sheet as they scored from a set piece in the 83rd minute.
Tennessee Tempo FC will play again this coming weekend, heading to Chattanooga to take on Kaistorms FC. Kickoff is scheduled for 5 PM on April 12th.
